🚀 High-Stakes Operations, Real-Time Decisions
While living abroad, I had the chance to join Genius Sports — a global sports tech leader providing real-time data for leagues, media, and betting platforms worldwide.
In Taiwan, I began by covering football and basketball games. Later, in Argentina, I transitioned into senior reporting duties — working independently, troubleshooting tech on-site, and coordinating local onboarding of new reporters.
This role demanded discipline, problem-solving, and smooth communication across teams and time zones — qualities essential for effective project and operations management.
🛠️ My Key Responsibilities
• Live reporting of football and basketball matches using Genius’ proprietary systems
• Ensuring zero-error data capture in high-speed environments
• Direct liaison between field operations and central data teams in Europe & Asia
• Training and mentoring new reporters in Argentina, standardizing field practices
• Managing real-time challenges — from internet failures to miscommunication with game officials

This wasn’t just event coverage — it was a crash course in operations and field management:
• Risk management: Planning for what can go wrong — and acting fast when it does
• People coordination: Managing teams on the ground, remotely and across language barriers
• Process discipline: Following strict procedures under tight timelines
• Operational autonomy: Making real-time decisions without waiting for HQ instructions
🔁 Reflection
My time with Genius Sports made me fall in love with operational roles. It taught me how structure, preparation, and leadership all come together when the stakes are high and there’s no room for delay.
This was where I learned to lead without a title, build trust, and make fast calls that kept the system running.
